A sheriff’s deputy and two bystanders rescued a northwest Harris County woman from her sunken car after she drove into a pond near her home while talking on her cell phone Thursday.Yu Hee Kim, 60, was driving a 2001 Lexus sports car that landed in 9-foot-deep water at a Twin Lakes subdivision pond. She was listed in critical but stable condition at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital.
There are laws passed and trying to be pasted in States that will ban using cell phones in cars. Now I can see why. It will not however band hands free phones…aren’t you just as distracted hands free as you would be if you were holding the phone?
The woman’s car jumped a curb and crossed an expanse of grass before plunging downhill into the man-made pond, Townley said. The car was approximately 50 feet from the shore and there were tire marks in the wet grass.
“She may have been trying to stop and couldn’t — this is an area with very little traffic. She was talking on her cellular phone and apparently wasn’t paying attention,” said Harris County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. John Martin.
OK, jumped a curve, crossed an “expanse of grass”, went down hill and was 50 feet from the shore…I’d say she wasn’t paying attention!
