Fight For The Right To Potty

Right to PottyThe peaceful village of Scarborough saw protestors flocking into the streets recently, demanding their public toilet be re-opened. The toilet was closed 2 years ago as the Scarborough Council hoped to save upwards of £86,000 in maintenance fees.Villagers made their way to Scalby High Street, where the toilet remained, useless and inoperable. Waiving ‘potties’ high in the air, these residents claim the public toilets were frequently used by visitors and elderly residents.

To the delight of the North Yorkshire village, upon raising enough money to maintain the public toilet for one year, £4,500, the Scarborough Council has reopened the facility. Locals are required to raise £4,500 each year in order for the public toilet to remain operational.

“We have cleaned them up and repainted them and washed all the tiles down,” Kate Newton, a member of the committee told BBC reporters. “They were originally built to a very high standard, because of course this is part of a conservation area, so we want to make sure that we keep them that way.”

To help pay for the yearly upkeep of the potty, villagers has installed an “honesty box”, where those who make use of the facility may make a donation towards it’s continuity.

Hey Comcast! It’s Hammer Time!

A 74 year old retired Air Force nurse, Mona Shaw, finally had enough and did what thousands of people have wanted to do many times over. Took matters in her own hands a literally “hammered” the Comcast cable company.

The story is very familiar to cable owners across the United States. She had ordered the much advertised Triple Play promotion and had an install date all set up. Yep, no one showed. When a technician did show up, two days later, the job was still not completed and they changed her phone number she has had for over 34 years. Two days after that, Comcast cut off all their service.

At this time Comcast disputes the details.

When she figured out how to finally use a pre-paid phone card, she had to deal with the ever frustrating non-human computer answering service.

“You know, push 1, push 2, so on and so forth. You get to the point where you want to throw your phone out the window,” Shaw said.

What happens next is almost any one who has ever dealt with Comcast dream come true.

In Mona’s words, “I just came down, went to my husband’s toolbox and reached in and pulled out the hammer and said ‘OK, Don, we’re going for a ride.’”

It seems time to get some ones attention, so to the local Comcast office they went.

“I hit the keyboard and I knocked over the computer monitor. If I need to get something done, I’m gonna find a way to get it done,” she said.

It obviously wasn’t long before the police came in.

“The next thing I know a police officer comes roaring in,” Shaw said. “When he said put down that hammer, well I did, right on the telephone. I figured, ‘Hey, my telephone is screwed up, so is yours.’”

Mona Shaw was arrested for disorderly conduct and received a suspended three month sentence and was fined $345. She is also barred from going near the Comcast office for a year.

In an interview Shaw said, “I stand by my actions even more so after getting all these telephone calls and hearing other people’s complaints.”

She also stated she has been called a hero by many, “But no, I’m just an old lady who got mad. I had a hissy fit,” she claims

The Shaws have phone and television service now - with Verizon and DirecTV.

‘Molly Want A Bath?’ Kitten Takes The Spin Cycle

A 10 month old kitten went for a spin in the washing machine. Though it was certainly a close call, the feline friend named Molly survived the ordeal and is now safe at home.

According to BBC reports, Bethany Hall, the 11 year old owner of the kitten, said she noticed Molly through the glass door of the washing machine at her County Durham home.

Sonia Hall, Bethany’s mother, relayed her emotions upon the frightful discovery, “I was in a state of panic when I saw her, but thankfully we have one of those machines that switches off easily.

“Even then I had to wait two to three minutes until it drained, but on touching the glass I found it was warm so I thought she couldn’t possibly have survived, “said Sonia.

“When we were finally able to open the door and move away the laundry she seemed okay as she was sitting up and meowing, but her eyes were closed.”

Sonia and Bethany rushed Molly to the Prince Bishop Veterinary Hospital, where Veterinarian Jacqui Molyneux stated, “Molly was brought to us in a very bad way and we thought that she wouldn’t pull through. However, she proved to be a real fighter and responded to the treatment incredibly well.”

Thankful to have the ordeal behind them and Molly back home safely, Sonia Hall added, “We’ll definitely be watching her more closely after this. The whole family thinks she’s really special and a very lucky little kitten.”
