According to a quote from the principal, Dr. Victoria Sharts that she made to MSNBC, it's not a complete ban altogether at the school:

“They can hug their friends as long as it’s not in the hallways,” she told NBC. “We know there are times when it’s necessary, and we want to support one another.”

There is a time and place for everything - I don't know, I'm just saying.....Perhaps hugging every single day between every class in the hallways is a bit excessive. Especially when it becomes a persistent problem in regards to tardiness with the majority of students. These students see each other every day, they have breaks as well as lunch.

As far as this principal who is now being critized; Everything is open to subjection, especially when its in the the media. With people being misquoted or quotes being omitted, just to make the story more satiable. I don't know, I'm just saying......

Hugs, it seems a rather odd thing to ban when there is so much that is more important to be concerned about in the school system today. It seems that when schools are placing metal detectors for violence that a simple show of affection would be a gratifying sight. These are young impressionable children that will become adults who think any type of public affection is wrong and that could lead to a very cold generation. Being late for class because of standing in the hallway and hugging is possibly a reason for detention after school but to ban it seems to be going a step to far. In the instance that a student comes to this principle with some type of problem that a hug would be in order to comfort or boost their confidence what happens in this case a handshake? Is this what the upset student will take with them in adulthood while remembering this incident? What a fond way to remember someone you should have looked up to and as far as banning things, there is too much of that everywhere today.

Banning hugs is ridiculous to say the least.. I could see them asking the students not to take so much time in the hallways - I can see them giving detention to students with too many 'tardy' marks.. but banning hugs?

As far as 'Innappropriate hugging', it should be dealt with individually - not by banning it altoghether.. that's like saying one guy beat up another guy in the boys bathroom - no more potty breaks! wait till you get home :)

Sure do seem to be a lot of laws popping up as of late in regards to what you can and cannot, and must wear. I have a daughter that's five. We have a swimming pool in the back yard, when she was about 2 she started skinny dipping, she was in, she was out, she was in.. you get the idea.

Well it was easier to just let her pop in naked dry off in the sun and then get her dressed again, if she wasn't already back in the pool.

Probably not our smartest parenting decision... the child does not believe in clothing! During her 3rd year, we at least drilled it into her head that panties were an absolute must! She's in kindergarten now, though we dress the child daily, send her to school, where she manages to keep all of her clothing on all day, somehow as soon as she gets home she ends up in her panties alone.

This might sound crazy to you, but we're talking about a little girl, no development goin' on here. So the rule has become, she can strip down to the panties, if she's in the house, and going to sleep. If she'd like to go out, she needs to be dressed.

That doesn't mean she wont try her luck, run outside topless, or in just the panties, at which point we will bring her back in, and explain to her that she has to be dressed to be outside.

She will insist that it's 'night-night' time, come back in lay on the couch and we'll repeat the process until she does actually fall asleep.

You're telling me if I lived in a different state I could get a ticket for this?
